0:08
hi this is Anita with Five Minutes with
0:11
Art one of my favorite artists by far is
0:16
Gogh and you know the question I'm
0:18
asking I'm guessing all of you is
0:20
Vincent Van Gogh why the world can't get
0:22
enough of him and there's some reasons
0:25
why I think that the world is so
0:27
fascinated with him if you looked on
0:30
Google Trends or if you did a search on
0:32
Google a lot of times you would see
0:34
Vincent Van Go's name come up as some of
0:36
one of the great artists he's always up
0:38
there usually in the top two or three
0:41
because people are searching for him
0:43
they're fascinated by him they they want
0:45
to know more about him and his story i
0:47
think part of it is because his life
0:49
reads like a fiction you know here is a
0:52
guy who he spent time in asylums he died
0:56
from a self-inflicted gunshot wound he
0:59
really was sort of a tragic character
1:01
during his lifetime he you know cut off
1:04
his own ear he you know had mental
1:07
problems he you know really was somebody
1:10
whose whose life is very fascinating and
1:13
interesting but not only that is his his
1:16
own style of his artwork his brush work
1:20
you know that breaks the rules like he
1:22
really had a unique style in his brush
1:25
work he broke the rules of the
1:26
convention during the time you know in
1:28
an area when realism and you know steel
1:31
had a firm grip on European art he chose
1:35
expressionism over accuracy and so you
1:38
know this is one reason why he he you
1:40
know appealed so much to the world today
1:42
he didn't paint what he literally saw he
1:45
paint how he saw it or how he felt so
1:48
there's a lot of emotion in it like if
1:50
you look at his paintings like the
1:51
starry night you know it's it's you know
1:53
this really is um considered one of the
1:56
masterpieces but yet at the same time
1:58
that you know it's not really like you
2:01
know a night sky that's realistic it's a
2:03
night sky as he saw it it's his
2:06
perceived way that he saw it during the
2:08
time you know he has art that sort of
2:10
speaks to outsiders even to people that
2:13
you know at the time you know people who
2:16
maybe didn't understand him even though
2:17
at the time of his life you know he
2:20
failed as an art dealer a teacher a
2:22
preacher um he failed in selling his art
2:25
he didn't sell any of his art he was an
2:26
unsuccessful artist he you know didn't
2:30
really find a place in the world people
2:31
didn't really like him he was kind of
2:32
considered a little bit oddball you know
2:35
he talked about his loneliness he didn't
2:36
really have a lot of friends and um you
2:39
know he was broke he was unstable and he
2:42
was isolated he was all of those things
2:45
that maybe so many people feel today so
2:48
a lot of people may have a lot of
2:49
compassion towards him he had a legacy
2:51
which actually grew with time you know
2:53
he's very well known because he only
2:55
sold like one painting in his lifetime
2:57
but at the same time his legacy grew
2:59
over time he now has a very you know
3:02
famous and popular museum in Amsterdam
3:05
dedicated just to him and to his art
3:07
it's hard to see his art you know in
3:09
many places around the world because art
3:11
his art has been harder to get but it's
3:14
very very extremely popular you know
3:16
museums that have it really prize having
3:19
a piece of one of his works of art and
3:22
this is really thanks to his
3:25
sister-in-law Joan Boner that she's
3:28
really the one who really understood the
3:31
value of his art you know six months
3:33
after Van Gogh passed away his beloved
3:36
brother Theo had been sporting and
3:38
passed away after Van Gogh died his art
3:41
all went to Theo and of course then to
3:44
Theo's widow Joanne Bonger and so she's
3:47
really the one that saw the value in
3:49
this you know she actually ended up
3:50
moving back to Holland from Paris she
3:52
had a young child you know that was you
3:55
know without a father and she could have
3:57
just said you know who wants this art
4:00
and she could have just like thrown it
4:01
away but she didn't she saw the value of
4:04
it and she's the one who's really
4:06
credited to helping make Van Go be as
4:08
famous today still today even for the
4:11
Van Go Museum the Van Go family is still
4:14
part of that museum and um you know
4:18
still very much active in preserving the
4:20
legacy of Vincent Van Go the other thing
4:23
that made Vincent Van Go very popular
4:24
and this has again to do with his um
4:27
sister-in-law was the power of the
4:29
letter where him and his brother wrote a
4:30
lot of letters back and forth she
4:32
preserved them she published them she
4:35
made sure that the world knew about them
4:37
they didn't really hide the fact of of
4:39
some of his issues and problems in fact
4:41
they sort of embraced it in a way to
4:43
show people this is what it was and I
4:46
think that a lot of people are relate to
4:48
Vincent Van Go because he's a bit of a
4:49
mirror for our own time that maybe you
4:52
know here's somebody who's endured
4:54
hardship isolationism and other things
4:57
like that but still at the same time
4:58
he's still considered a great artist you
5:01
know he his story is kind of one of
5:03
suffering and endurance and and making
5:06
it through if you'd like to be able to
5:08
read more about Vincent Van Go and to be
5:10
able to learn more about his life I've
5:15
entitled Vincent Van Go Why the World
5:18
Still Can't Get Enough and we'll put a
5:19
link in the description below so that if
5:21
you'd like to be able to read more of
5:22
that and see some of his artwork you can
5:24
actually read more about him he truly is
5:26
a wonderful and a fascinating artist and
5:29
someone whose life and legacy and art is
5:32
worth studying and understanding this is
