Van Gogh wanted to form a group of artists to help each other and build each other up while exploring different paintings in style. For a short time, he worked with the post-impressionist painter Gauguin, but this lasted a few months as they were both temperamental and had opposing artistic ideas.
Because of the emotional strain of all of his relationship with Gauguin, Van Gogh was supposedly chasing Gauguin around with a razor. Then Van Gogh cut off his ear and delivered it to a prostitute. Van Gogh was an artistic genius who suffered from many mental health issues.

Jo Van Gogh-Bonger – Theo’s Widow
When Vincent van Gogh died, no one knew about him and his paintings. Because we know about him and his artwork today, we must credit Joe van Gogh-Bonger, his brother Theos widow.
Six months after Vincent van Gogh died, so did his brother Theo. Vincent was very close to his brother Theo, and Theo was a great supporter of Vincent.
At this time, his sister-in-law Jo was only 28 years old and left as a widow with a young son named Vincent. She had the tiny Paris apartment full of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings.
Jo returned to live in Holland and opened a guest house where many artists and writers frequented. She learned about the art world from them. Jo started to find a way to get Van Gogh’s paintings out into the world.
Due to her very organized and savvy business mind, we know of Vincent van Gogh today. She organized exhibitions, found the right people to purchase his paintings, and even published the letters between Vincent and Theo.
