The Art Inspiration – The Rooster And The African Necklace

I love to paint animals, and I loved this rooster as I thought he was beautiful – such a beautiful white elegant rooster. I am not sure what inspired me to paint this painting, but I really like the rooster, and I thought putting an African-looking necklace on him would add some fun to the oil painting.

I felt if a rooster was going to actually wear a necklace around his neck it would need to be one that really made a statement. I love what the iconic fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg said about jewelry:

This is how I feel about this necklace on this rooster. Without the necklace, this painting would be a normal painting of a rooster. The African necklace adds a bit of spice to the entire painting as it is now a painting of a Rooster with a large African necklace around its neck.

Like with all my oil paintings, I want a painting that will be fun and have some spice. My goal with my paintings is to have you look at the painting and smile because Anita Louise Art is #ArtThatMakesYouSmile.

About The Oil Painting – The Rooster and The African Necklace

The Rooster and the African Necklace paint is like most of my art – it has some fun, bright and subtle colors. I use heavy gold leafing on the necklace and have painted the necklace to give it an African and hand-crafted feel. Here are some points about the painting:

• The Rooster – I love how the rooster is looking away or over his shoulder. I feel like then you can fully see the necklace around his neck. I choose to paint a rooster as I love the red crown on his head; I feel like it fits so well for him to have on a necklace.
• The Necklace – The necklace has a lot of gold leaf on it and also some other colors. I purposely made it look more handmade or almost rustic as this is an African necklace that would have been handmade in a small village someone in Africa. The necklace is also quite large as it is a statement piece.
• Painting Colors -Besides the necklace colors, all the other colors are pretty subdued. This is because my main focus was to have the necklace stand out on the rooster. I purposely choose a completely white rooster as I did not want to have a rooster with many colors.
